One of my first few paid design contract gigs for a wonderful person called Shelly Culbertson, who was working at RAND, and who I was introduced to through her husband, my mentor. She had a small real-estate business on the side, and needed a brand/logo for the same.
This was 2009. I had been pushing my way through design tools for years, but didn't really have any formal training on logo design. I don't even remember Googling enough about a good logo design process. All I knew from my training at that point was that in the most things in design, coming up with lot of alternatives and putting it out there before committing to a direction was the right thing to do. So that's what I did.
